Rationale For My Research Project

I would like to explore why jeans have survived so long and how they came to be. They have a close tie to America and its industries since the Industrial Revolution and the GoldRush. I want to explore the historical context of the product and how it influences the ads that are shown today for Levis Jeans.

1. Title- Jeans: a cultural history of an American icon / by James Sullivan.

2. http://www.levistrauss.com

3. Title- Blue jeans / by Lorraine and Jerrold Beim

Your topic is very strong, and specific. The argument I think you are trying to make is that current events of America have a great influence on Levis Jeans advertisements. Also the exploration of how jeans came about, and how the way they are presented in ads have evoloved.

First of all i love this idea especially since i am also doing Levi jeans. Your argument could be that jeans will last forever.

Sounds good. So your thesis is : Advertisements for Levi jeans display the industrial history of the jeans? Seems pretty clear to me 🙂

I think that your argument or thesis is that Levi’s, a company that has been around for a very long time, has grown and changed just as history has changed. Your idea of exploring the commercial aspect of it is a good one, and I think you will be able to make a strong argument in regards to how history has shaped the ads for this product.

Your argument could be along the lines of the influence of America on jeans and vice versa. This would show through their different advertisements that would morph and change along with America.

i think that it is a really good idea to do. the argument seems vague, but it seems that you could argue that jeans have changed along with american culture, meaning that jeans have become sexier and more revealing much like american culture. now they’re not just functional pieces of clothing.
